How Did You Learn? Watching Children Learn Through Mistakes

I learned what it feels like to live without God when I left home.

I learned how your heart can stray, and you can hunger and thirst for alcohol.
I learned what it feels like to sniff drugs in a bathroom stall.
I learned what it feels like to get drunk so you can forget the night before.
I learned what it feels like to wake up in the bed of a stranger.
I learned about how empty you can feel when you try to find love in sex.

I learned the consequences of not respecting your husband.
I learned the consequences of not loving your husband.
I learned the consequences of not putting your marriage first.
I learned that I was wrong when I wished that he was gone.

I learned the heart ache that can be caused by being the gossip.
I learned the destruction that speaking about people and not to people can cause.
I learned the power of forgiveness, and repentance.
I learned the power of prayer, and keeping hold of my tongue.

Look at how I learn.
Look at how you learn.
Now, how do you think our children will learn?
Do you think they will learn from a book?
from a blog
from a friend
from an enemy
from you?

They will learn by trial.
They will learn by suffering.
They will learn by fire.
They will learn by their own hand.
They will learn by the hand of another.
They will sin.
They will repent.
They will sin again.
They will learn, in much the same way you did.

And when they do, remember your job is to pray.
Pray for their protection.
Pray for their safety.
Pray for their deliverance.
Pray for their soul.
Pray for yours.
Pray their trial would end.
Pray they would be protected from themselves.
Pray, pray, and pray.

As you have learned, so will they.
They must learn it on their own, just like you did, just like we still do.
Pray, pray, and pray.
